This article and email below came to my inbox today. In my opinion, conservation easements are only as good as their language and their enforcement. There is a flaw in the system. I discovered it myself through personal experience with another lands trust. I believe the lands trusts have to live up to their end of the bargain, which includes enforcement of that which is agreed upon by all parties.

“Please be sure to read this article from today’s City Paper, which raises the following questions about the devastation of conservation land in our town!!!! Be sure to pass it along to your friends and neighbors too!!!!
1. Did a Pennsylvania land trust cave in to millionaires building an illegal corral in a permanently restricted conservation area?
2. If wealthy groups decide to build in conservation areas without consequence, is protected land across Pennsylvania is at risk?
3. How should land trusts enforce or police conservation easements?”
